Pasture of Puddles

E.E. Cummings wrote, “The world is mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful.”

This is not a universal opinion in southeast Missouri at this time. I think many are tired of the rain, the wet, the slop.

Some of the animals are suffering from a lack of dry places to go. The kittens have moved to their third home since the first was moved and the second too wet. The spring broilers are not growing as expected. Our mostly open, outdoor model isn’t awesome in these conditions. Some of the cow lanes have turned to slop and the pastures are full of puddles!

It will soon be time to make hay. You can only make hay when the sun shines to dry it out for storage all year. Otherwise, it will mold. Our cattle depend on hay in the winter. We will need it to dry up real soon.

The upside is the pigs are finding it fun to root around in the mud. And all the children think the puddles are a splash!

So we kindly request you keep the farm in your prayers when you notice the wet weather.
