Milk Supply and Ideas
Hello dear farm friends,
As many of you know we have been short of milk lately We have been looking at the different options and settled on what we feel will work best for everyone.
We searched high and low for cows that will work on our system. Sad part is, there are no grassfed cows locally EXCEPT ours! We will need to get conventionally grain fed cows and convert them to Grassfed. It takes time and sometimes doesn’t work out. I don’t say this to discourage you but rather to inform you of the disadvantage of going against popular culture by not feeding grain. Good news is the cows that work out give us AWESOME milk, as you well know.
We figure we will need four to five new cows. As we searched we were surprised by the high prices for lactating cows. Wow! Our own herd has been supplying all the heifers we needed for some years now. Prices are just so much higher than last time we needed to buy cows. Think $1800 instead of $900-1200.
Here’s where you can come in. You can guarantee your milk supply by prepaying for your milk now. Consider how many jars per week (or 2 weeks) for your family needs. Look at your budget and evaluate how many weeks/months you can prepay for. Once the cows are here we will be able to supply you with what your body/family needs hopefully without limits! We will use this money to buy additional cows.
For ST. LOUIS CUSTOMERS, we will track your prepaid purchases through the farm store rather than online. That way selling out won’t be a problem. Of course, that means you are committing to be at the pick up site on a schedule, too. We will still have you go through the online store to confirm you are picking up your jars and for other items like beef, eggs and honey. Please let us know if you are taking a vacation. This will allow us to put the extra milk on the inventory for occasional customers and new customers.
For FARM STORE CUSTOMERS, we will track prepaid milk just as we always have. You commit to a day and number of jars and we put you on the schedule. Likewise, you are committing to be there on time and will let us know a day in advance or at least before the store opens if you will not be there. Honestly, I don’t have time to answer the phone or check email during the store. Occasionally, I can get a text between customers but it is unreliable.
To prepay stop by the store or send a note in the mail with following information:

No credit cards for this please. We have never raised our prices to accommodate for this convenience.
I will call each of you to confirm dates and times we can get started delivering plenty of milk again. I’m hopeful we can even have extra for cream (I can dream big).
And since, I have your attention, PLEASE be sure to return CLEAN and DRY jars each time. We really dislike scrubbing old grime off bottles especially the ring area. We’d rather spend the time being great farmers than great dishwashers. Thanks so much!
Farming certainly is an adventure full of challenges and blessings. So grateful you are on this journey with us. Thank you for your patience as we work out the details. I hope you feel it is worth it.
As always, please feel free to contact us with questions or ideas.
